[Forthcoming Journal Publication] Prof. Karim Bettache - "Geopolitical Psychology: An Emerging Perspective” in Journal of Social Issues (21 Nov 2025)

In December 2025, Prof. Karim Bettache, in collaboration with Prof. Chi-Yue Chiu and Dr. Sammyh Khan, will release his journal article entitled “Geopolitical Psychology: An Emerging Perspective.” in the Journal of Social Issues (JSI), a highly-regarded Q1 journal, ranking in the top quartile for Social Sciences and Social Psychology.

 

In this special issue, Prof. Bettache and his collaborators propose a new direction in psychology that incorporates geopolitical developments into psychology. That is, the interaction between geopolitical events (e.g., war, covid, colonialism) and how they relate to our individual psychology.

Prof. Karim Bettache has been invited to participate as a keynote speaker at the International Association for Cross-Cultural Psychology (IACCP) Regional Congress in July 2026. IACCP is a reputable organization that organizes conferences in cultural psychology.

 

Prof. Bettache is invited to serve as a keynote speaker based on his recent publication, entitled, “Where is capitalism? Unmasking its hidden role in psychology.”, in the globally-ranked top 3 journals in social psychology, i.e., the Personality and Social Psychology Review (PSPR). In this article, Prof. Bettache posited that psychology needs to incorporate capitalism into its theories about culture and human behavior.

 

Personality and Social Psychology Review is one of the foremost flagship journals of social psychology.

Prof. Karim Bettache has received the Editorial Fellowship award, including a monetary award of USD1,000 from the American Psychological Association to serve as one of the four editorial positions of the Psychological Review journal.

Prof. Karim Bettache published a journal article entitled, “Racial Representation in Psychology Textbooks” in the Journal of Social Issues (JSI), Volume 81, Issue 3. JSI is a highly-regarded Q1 journal, ranking in the top quartile for Social Sciences and Social Psychology, known for publishing impactful research on pressing human and social problems, and is affiliated with the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues (SPSSI).

 

Prof. Bettache’s article presented the research contributes to understanding how colonial-era social hierarchies are reproduced through contemporary academic practices, offering practical implications for decolonizing psychological pedagogy and creating more internationally relevant educational materials.
