Programme Introduction
Interdisciplinary Curriculum Nurturing Future Global Leaders
Our Global Studies (GLSD) undergraduate programme nurtures future global leaders by cultivating a global mindset. It is designed to respond to the increased mobility of talents and the integration of national markets, and to meet the rapidly rising demand for leader who can negotiate international relations and geopolitics, analyze interconnected worldwide economic and financial linkage, and react to global environmental and health challenges (e.g. climate change, pollution and pandemics).
The programme is designed for students who:
- are interested in global issues;
- want to equip themselves with a global and cosmopolitan vision;
- want to develop analytical and practical skills to help them think globally and act locally; and
- want to prepare themselves for careers with an international orientation
Students can design their own concentration area and build their expertise in this area by choosing a mix of the interdisciplinary courses from the following elective clusters:
- Global Media and Popular Culture
- Global Economy
- World Politics
- Planetary Health
- Quantitative Methods in Global Studies
Diverse Experiential Learning Activities
GLSD students take part in various experiential learning activities to deepen their knowledge of diverse academic disciplines:
- Faculty Package
- Resident study overseas
- Foreign language courses
- Student-designed interdisciplinary concentration area
- Internship
- Capstone courses
Career Prospects
GLSD students are trained to work in the public and private sectors, including:
- Government;
- Multinational Corporations;
- Global Organizations;
- Non-profit Organizations; and
- Education Institutions.
Graduates can also pursue postgraduate studies in the area of globalization and related fields.

- JUPAS HKDSE Minimum Requirements:
- Level 3 or above in Chinese Language
- Level 3 or above in English Language
- Level 2 or above in Mathematics
- Attained in Citizenship and Social Development (CSD)
- Level 3 or above in any 2 elective subjects (including Mathematics Extended Part Module I or Module II)
- Indicative Admission Quota: 19
- Subject Weightings: We count Best 5 subjects. Extra weighting to English (Weighting: 1.5). The weightings for all other subjects are the same (1.0).
- JUPAS HKDSE Minimum Requirements:

- Broad-based Admission: Students admitted to CUHK through the Social Science Broad-based Admission (JS4892) are free to choose GLSD as the major in the second year; there are no special requirements.

Programme Features
- Participating students will spend first two years at the home university and then at the partner university for the last two years.
- Students only have to pay tuition fee of their home university.
- Upon the completion of all graduation requirements of both universities, students can earn two bachelor’s degrees each from CUHK and Waseda University.
Admission Requirements
Requirements for admission to the 2nd degree programme in Waseda University:
- Students must receive a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above in their first year of studies (summer term included);
- Students should have takenat least 37 units in the first year of studies, or they may have to extend their normative study period; and
- Interviews may be conducted to select students when they have completed their first year of studies.
